NiSiap来自潮州话，Ni是染；而Siap则是涩感的涩。在霹雳州有个名为「十八丁」的渔村，那里保留了马来半岛最大面积的红树林。红树林富含单宁酸，遇空气容易氧化而转为红色，故被泛称为「红树林」。Ni Siap 是指在红树林染浴中染色后，织物和网布的干燥粗糙的质地。

 

Ni Siap is a type of natural method of dyeing used by fishermen in Kuala Selayang. Ni means ‘dye’ and Siap means ‘coarse’ in the Chinese TeoChew dialect. Ni Siap refers to the dry and rough texture of the fabric and nets after being dyed in the mangrove dye bath. Mangrove tree bark is rich in tannin, which is easily oxidised, turning into a beautiful reddish colour when exposed to air.
