If a colour disappears, will the world still remember it? In Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve Kuala Sepetang, Kuala Gula dan Temerlok, Perak there is a traditional dye known as Ni Siap—red mangrove dye that lay dormant for forty years. This quiet, unassuming colour comes from the mangrove forest. In the past, it was the protective shade of charcoal workers and fishermen, and part of everyday life. Today, the Look Port Weld Kuala Sepetang Community Committee is rediscovering this memory.
