Cross-Cultural Carnival @ Kamunting - Weaving Heritage, Creativity, and Community through Textile Craft Co-Creation
在一针一线的缝合中,看见十八丁缝出故事;在每一次浸染中,染出文化;
On 21 September, the communities of Kamunting (Daerah Larut Matang) gathered at SJKC Phui Choi for the Cross-Cultural Carnival, a vibrant celebration of community spirit, pride in local cultural heritage, and creative collaboration. From 9 am to 4 pm, the school grounds were transformed into a lively creative hub for handcrafting experience and experimental co-creation, where heritage and tradition intersect with local creativity and artisanal innovation. Artisans and community members, including students, teachers, younger children and parents, actively explored creativity and the potential of interdisciplinary artisanal fusion.
Following Look Port Weld’s ongoing community engagement efforts since 2014, it is truly delighted to witness the fourth initiative of cross-cultural collaboration and co-creation in fabric craftsmanship, led by four distinctive textile craft practitioners from different practice backgrounds – Kak Tanti of Batik Tanuntaya (Taiping, Perak), who specialises in traditional batik; Chingwei and Barley of Cibabond Studio (Semenyih, Selangor), celebrated for their contemporary batik artistry; Eliza Allias of Ghomah Batik (Manjung, Perak), recognised for her environmentally conscious approach to eco-print textiles craftsmanship; and Tyan Yin of Look Port Weld, who continues to uphold and advance the legacy of Ni Siap natural dyeing technique.
